What is MimicBox?
A free browser mimic party game: everyone hears a short meme sound, then everyone imitates it with their microphone at the same time. The takes are played back one by one, scored, and the room votes for the best impression.
Is MimicBox free?
Yes, completely free, with no account and no download.
How many players do I need?
From 2 to 6 players per room. The game is at its best with 4 to 6 players.
How do I create a private room?
Press Create a room on the home page. You get a 5 letter code and an invite link to share with your friends.
My microphone does not work, what can I do?
Check that the browser has permission to use the microphone (padlock icon in the address bar), that the right input device is selected in your system settings, and that no other app is blocking it. Then reload the page.
I cannot hear the sounds
Turn up the volume, disable silent mode on your phone and tap the page once: browsers only allow sound after an interaction.
How does the automatic score work?
The game compares the shape of your take with the original (the rhythm of the syllables for 60 %, the length for 40 %) and multiplies it by the content, the melody, so the right rhythm with the wrong words caps around 35. Starting more than 250 ms early or late costs points. It looks at the shape of the sound, not your voice timbre or absolute pitch.
What happens to my recordings?
In a room, your take is sent to the other players of that room so they can hear it, and it is deleted when the room closes. Nothing is published and no recording is kept.
Can I add my own sounds?
Custom packs are not available to players yet. New packs are added regularly.
