How to play MimicBox

1. Create or join a room

One player creates a private room and shares the code. Everyone picks a name and an avatar. The host chooses a sound pack, the number of rounds (3, 5, 8 or 10) and presses Start. You need at least 2 players.

2. Listen to the sound

At the start of each round, the same sound plays for everyone at the same time. Listen carefully: you cannot replay it yourself.

3. Everyone records at once

After the sound, a 3 second countdown starts for the whole room, then a timed window opens for everyone at the same time: 1.5 seconds to get ready, the original sound (you see its grey waveform in the middle), and 1.5 seconds to finish. Your voice draws itself in blue over the grey: the goal is to hit the sound at the exact moment it plays. You only get one take, and nobody hears the others yet.

Then the takes are played back one by one: each player steps up to the microphone on the scene, the room hears their take, and their similarity score (0 to 100 points) is shown right away and added to the scoreboard.

4. Vote

Once every take has been played, replay any of them and vote for the best impression within 15 seconds. You cannot vote for yourself. With only 2 players there is no vote. Each vote received shows up as +100 on the avatar, then the next round starts automatically.

5. Points and podium

• Similarity score, shown right after your take is played: 0 to 100 points.
• Each vote received: 100 points.
• A skipped or silent take scores nothing.
• After the last round, the player with the most points wins the party.

Microphone tips

Allow the microphone when your browser asks. Use the "Test my mic" button in the lobby to check your level. On iPhone, use Safari or Chrome and keep the silent switch off to hear the sounds.
